go to game folder suppose

right click RUN_L4D , properties tap to compatibility ,
check run in 640x480 screen resolution
If you have lags in the game go to advanced video setting Disable multi-core

I have successfully downloaded the game but I cant run it. I followed all the messages written in the readme file but still I cant run. Please help me what to do

try updating your directx9 using the directx9websetup file...
go to the folder and run the game using the left4dead.exe file >>RED ICON<<
You can simply right click on that file and send to desktop to create shortcut

Use the latest version of winrar or 7-zip....

Extract .rar file ..
Xp Users - Extract to :Example CProgram Files
Vista Users -Extract to Desktop First, Then Drag and Drop the Extracted folder to where ever you prefer
Go to the Extracted folder and Double Click on the >>makedesktopicon<< file
Start The game from the desktop.
Simple as that :

NB: please use the latest version of winrar.....

Hello. I did what you said: extracted and clicked the the makedesktopicon twice. But when I go to the Desktop and click on the shortcut, it says that the file has been removed or deleted. I didn't move or delet the file.. What's wrong.

This is my first time downloading a game so I don't really know a lot.

This is a common error, not only with left4Dead,but also with Saint's Row 2 .....

I always test my games on four different Operating systems before uploading.

In my experience to play online, you can use either Garena, Hamachi or use typical non-steam servers.
To play on Garena see this link http://www.garena.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=419115 you'll have to install the update if this release is 1.0.0.5

To play on Hamachi, I really haven't tried, so look it up on google.

TO play on typical cracked servers, go to http://www.thepsyfamily.net/forum/index.php?topic=4966.0 , install the same patch as the Garena one and open console with the tilde key (next to 1 on the keyboard). Type connect [space] [host ip] eg. connect 82.193.146.197:27017 .

For LAN simply type in the console, map [mapname] you'll get the prompts from the console. It'll be something like map l4d_........ . type net_start or something like that in the console to find your IP and port. For the people who want to connect they do the same thing as on typical cracked servers. eg. connect 192.168.1.9:27015 .

Hope this works for you guys.

YEAH THANKS MP7560! BUT got a noob question comming up, but ive just tried connecting 2 laptops together via LAN (ethernet cable) and its doesnt seem to work. Just wandering if you or anyone else can help me with this?

Ive tried to google/******* it but no luck. If you have a link on how to do this, that will be fine also.

here's a tip u can all try, dunno if it works but seems promising

u need to have steam and turn it offline though it seems

then in the game go to keyboard/Mouse options and enable developers console

then press ¬ on english keyboard and type openserverbrowser

a LAN box should open

havent had the chance yet to try it proberly but i think it should work

Here is what you need to do:
1. Install Left 4 Dead retail/cracked game.
2. Forget about installing/downloading Steam.
3. Install Hamachi--google it.
4. Follow the instructions below once you have installed the game on your computer and other computers connected to yours, via crosswire cable or router.

2.] For the first time user, it would ask to create username and random generated IP address. [your IP address would ONLY be used on Hamachi server!]
3.] When you've created username & received random IP address, you can [For Host] create or [For Quests] join a room created by your friend/host
4.] For quests, you must join the room created by the host by entering the room name and the password.. before be able to connect each other.

5.] L4D Valve is very strict in the way LAN works in Left 4 Dead. The first two octets of your IP address must be the same in order for the players to join, or else you will get the Class Restrict Error. For example, if the server host has a hamachi ID of 5.111.xxx.xxx, Then all of the other players must have IP addresses of 5.111.xxx.xxx. If you have an IP address of 5.112.xxx.xxx, then you will not be able to join.
6.] Unfortunately, it is not easy to change the hamachi ID. You’ll have to recreate a hamachi profile in order to get a different Hamachi ID. It is best to have all 4 players to recreate the Hamachi ID around the same time so you’ll get 4 IP address with the same 2 octets.

4.] Type: sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0

This has got to be the easiest install I've ever had 1) Extracted download to my desktop 2) Ran Left4dead.exe (start), once finished take tick out of box to run 3) Ran Left4dead.exe (finish), once finished take tick out of box to run 4) double click on shortcut created on desktop Thanks a lot for this game
