Moonspell have many times been referred to as one of the most important and revolutionary bands inside contemporary Metal music. Since their early times with mini-album Under the Moonspell (1994) and their legendary debut Wolfheart (1995), that their path has been marked by a restless imagination and will power, allowing them to chart into further musical territories, taking up the whole Gothic Metal genre along to sonic and visual dimensions one could never dream of. After 1998’s Sin/Pecado the band has pursued even further musical contexts to an ever growing loyal following all around the world. To list what Moonspell has done is pointless because their appearances at all the major Metal and Gothic festivals (Dynamo, WFF, Roskilde, etc.); their headlining and supporting tours through all Europe, USA and Latin America (with Type o Negative, Cradle of Filth, Kreator,Opeth, Samael, etc.); up to their collaboration with Portuguese’s most important ballet company (Ballet Gulbenkian) and their participation on the OST of I will see you in my dreams (the first Portuguese horror movie ever awarded with a Melies d’Or and winner at several other film festivals) ; the list is breathtaking and endless.

Memorial marks the return of the band, after two years of intense touring with the publicly acclaimed album The Antidote (2003), to Woodhouse studios (Germany) where they worked again with long-time producer Waldemar Sorychta (Wolfheart, Irreligious, Sin). Memorial is, again, a ground-breaking album which shows not only that the eternal spark of Moonspell’s creativity is at its maturity’s peak, but that also recreates traditions and influences that have helped the band to conquer their rightful place at the top of the Gothic Metal scene in the Nineties. The most famous and successful Portuguese band ever presents us a work of the finest art where power and soul flow together in a heavy, dark and atmospheric album, rarely heard on nowadays’ Gothic Metal scene. Memorial is a feast to the senses, food for thought and a light for the soul. Memorial is something you will like to hold on to and to remember forever.
