Harptallica began in early 2006 when Ashley Toman, a grad student at the Eastman School of Music, decided to arrange one Metallica song, "Fade to Black," for two harps. Somehow this turned into 10 Metallica Songs and a CD which they recorded in November, 2006. The CD, titled "Harptallica," will contain songs from "Ride the Lightning," "Master of Puppets," "...And Justice for All," and "Metallica." Right now the album layout and graphics are being designed by the lovely Patricia Kline.
Ashley Lancz Toman Ashley began playing the harp as well as studying music in general at the age of 15 with Sylvia Norris. Three years later she went to the Eastman School of Music where she received a BM and MM and studied with Kathleen Bride. At Eastman, Ashley was first introduced to Metallica briefly, by a teacher who played it during theory class. It wouldn't be until four years later that Ashley really started to listen to heavy metal thanks to her husband Ben. Since 2003 Ashley has played at High Tea and Demitasse at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island Michigan. Her first CD "Lighting up the Room" (no Metallica on it) is available through her website www.ashleytoman.com Ashley resides and freelances in Baton Rouge Louisiana, with her husband Ben, and dog Ginger.
Patricia Kline- fell in love with the harp at the age of five, but didn't begin playing until she was twelve. She studied with Maria Stanzweska and Felice Pomeranz before pursuing her BM and MM with Kathleen Bride at the Eastman School of Music. Aside from Metallica, Patricia also enjoys playing contemporary classical and orchestral music. She has spent the past two summers performing in the pit at the Ohio Light Opera. Patricia currently lives in central Massachusetts, where she teaches.
