Forest Of Fog might be Swiss, but the musical visions and aesthetics are Norwegian. When listening to Abgründe [German for The Abyss], I browse my way through a catalogue of past stalwarts such as Burzum and early Dismal Euphony; the production, the ambience as well as the dynamics of the music basically revive the golden era of early 1990’s Norwegian black metal.

The vocals remind me of Abbath [Immortal], and parts of the musical drive, such as the thrash riffs and aggressive themes, likewise waltz with influences from the newly reunited act, as well the one of Darkthrone, although the musical consensus is dominated by the atmosphere that characterized early Dimmu Borgir and Burzum. Perhaps, Germany’s Sun Of The Sleepless is the closest non-Scandinavian band to share common bonds with Forest Of Fog.

Fortunately, Forest Of Fog procreate their musical ambitions without leeching unnecessary on the influences, although I would love to witness an increased development of the unique fingerprints that would allow me to award a future product with a higher grade.
