Expand the Power of Your PC with Virtualization

Discover the true power and flexibility of your desktop or laptop computer with VMware Workstation. Reduce hardware costs by 50% or more by running multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single PC. Automate and streamline tasks to save time and improve productivity. Join the millions worldwide who use Workstation to:

   * Host legacy applications and overcome platform migration issues
   * Configure & test new software or patches in an isolated environment
   * Automate tasks for software development and testing
   * Demonstrate multi-tier configurations on a single PC

Use Multiple Operating Systems Concurrently on the Same PC

VMware Workstation 6 makes it simple to create and run multiple virtual machines on your desktop or laptop computer. You can convert an existing physical PC into a VMware virtual machine, or create a new virtual machine from scratch. Each virtual machine represents a complete PC, including the processor, memory, network connections and peripheral ports.

VMware Workstation lets you use your virtual machines to run Windows, Linux and a host of other operating systems side-by-side on the same computer. You can switch between operating systems instantly with a click of a mouse, share files between virtual machines with drag-and-drop functionality and access all the peripheral devices you rely on.
Take Snapshots & Videos of your Virtual Machines

With Workstation, you can take a “snapshot” that preserves the state of a virtual machine so you can return to it at any time. Snapshots are useful when you need to revert your virtual machine to a prior, stable system state. Workstation displays thumbnails of all your snapshots on a single screen, making it easy for you to track and revert to a previously saved snapshot.

You can even use Workstation 6 to record and play video files that capture all changes to a virtual machine over a period of time. This function is exclusive to VMware Workstation and is incredibly useful for software debugging, Help Desk forensics, sales demonstrations and training.
Run an Entire Multi-tier System on a Single Host Computer

Run multi-tier enterprise applications on a single piece of hardware by managing network-connected virtual machines with the Teams feature of Workstation 6. Teams let you create virtual network environments that include client, server and database virtual machines.

With Workstation Teams, you can turn an entire multi-tier environment on and off with a single click of the mouse button. Workstation displays live thumbnails of all connected virtual machines, enabling you to easily identify and switch between the virtual machines associated with a team.
Clone your Virtual Machines to Accelerate Deployment

Installing operating systems and applications can be time consuming. With clones, you can make many copies of a virtual machine from a single installation and configuration process. This capability makes it fast and simple to distribute standardized computing environments to employees and students, or to create a baseline configuration for testing.
Take Your Virtual Machines With You

New to Workstation 6 is the ability to create and deploy secure virtual machines (called ACEs) with the ACE Option Pack. Mobility is one of the primary benefits of this option pack, as it enables users to securely take their desktops with them on portable media devices such as USB thumb drives.

of course! take all the time you need...
i'm already grateful that you're using your time, to solve my problem.
If i come up with a working solution on my own i'll let you know too...
In the mean time I guess I'll use the free edition
dinguskull02/03/2008 03.27.21
Wow your weren't kidding, lol. I'm sorry for the delay vito and thanks for your quick response. I have been getting mail from other people having the same problem so check out what I wrote in the forum:
http://fr33sp33k.h33t.com/index.php/topic,4827.msg28811.html#new
I haven't been able to talk to my one friend for awhile now so I can't ask him for advice. Maybe it's just a problem with vista because I know for a matter a fact it works on XP. So... give me a bit and let me look into this ok?
vito02/03/2008 03.14.19
I don't know, maybe I did smthg wrong...
At first I followed your instructions exactly and it didn't work. So then, I also tried starting the vmauthd service but blocking its internet access with the firewall, but I got the same result.
It looks like I'm the only one that had problems though... weird. (my system is a Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium fresh install).
Anyway, here's the screenshot:

(I couldn't find a preview option, so hopefully the pic will show up)

And... thanks for your help!
dinguskull02/03/2008 00.54.57
vito can you give me a screenshot showing your problem? I have direct contact with someone who actually works with vmware and thats what he told me to delete. If you deleted VMAuthdService from the startup and your getting problems then all I can say is your system is fuked because that should never happen. Please give me a screenshot then I will see what I can do.

hi,
thanks for the upload dinguskull.

I followed the instructions and was able to install vmware workstation with no problems. Then I removed the VMAuthdService from startup as instructed; but now when trying to start a newly created virtual machine, vmware complains: "The VMWare authorization service is not running." and doesn't let me start it up.
Did anybody else had this problem?

PS: My OS is Vista (32bit) Home Premium

i have found out that for best performance in this program if you are running vista close down your security and run the program as administrator
dinguskull15/02/2008 21.01.48
Just an update, I had to reformat and now know the name of the startup entry for sure: "VMAuthdService." Delete that from your startup
dinguskull05/02/2008 22.45.41
Sorry everyone for the delay, I've been pretty busy. idealista the program is something like vmware server authorization. I can't remember exactly right off the top of my head and have already deleted it so I couldn't check for you. Most modern computer have sooooo many things that are pinned to the start-up and if you use autoruns it might take you awhile to find it, but its there. No problem speedemon

Thanks for sharing and the work around also
idealista25/01/2008 21.26.37
Please, what program must be deleted from autostart?
Thanks a lot in advance!
dinguskull05/01/2008 22.42.09
I really don't know, my friend just told me if you don't delete that from the start up. They know. Whether they follow up with prosecuting, who knows.
jme05/01/2008 22.30.45
what will happen if they record my ip adress?
dinguskull04/01/2008 18.08.10
gotta love vmware
