Biolich is a New York based technical deathmetal band with an enormous indie guitar swing which will definitely be the leading factor in you loving or hating the sound. Tom and Will have been in this band from the start (1997). In 2002 Dan and Andrew joined and made the band complete its line-up. The bio mentions the band is majorly influenced by Demilich from Finland. I hear sounds that made me think of Zeni Geva, Cromlech (Holland), Sonic Youth (scene) and perhaps some schizoid 60s and 70s tunes.
I am reviewing ?The Space Between Home And Today? because this has something to do with deathmetal in some way. Although the information mentioned above is the leading theme, it is all packed in a thick layer of American deathmetal, including the low grunting vocals. Those vocals do switch to clean vocals now and then and those clean ones are the only weak point of this album. On the other hand, because all band-members do vocals, the variety in the vocal section is one of the positive points. Another positive point is the good production. The sometimes ?chaotic? music-style never drowns. The compositions are experimental, but never lose melody. All is played tight and as much I even try to hate this modern deathmetal, I can?t think of any nasty comment besides the clean vocal shit.
If Biolich play in support of the right band (Like Slayer or Rammstein for instance) it wouldn?t surprise me if they conquered Europe. Yep, this band sounds like it has a lot of potential. |
