Dark Millennium is a German Doom/Death Metal band that was active in the early nineties. They released two demos: "The apocryphal wisdom" and "Of sceptre their ashes may be" and two albums: "Ashore The Celestial Burden" & "Diana read peace" each of the releases having its own original sound.

One of the most fantastic Death Metal albums of all times is: "Ashore The Celestial Burden" and came from DARK MILLENNIUM. It was very hard to believe that an album like this could come from Germany (I don’t want to put down the local scene in any way), but I have to mention that the Death Metal style has only been touched partly. The strongest link to this genre is the very intense, a bit feminine (say Sabine Classen) sounding voice of fronter Christian Mertens.
The music of the band mostly is based on slow, melancholic riffs, which even today are unreached. Over this basic skeleton the combo processes a myriad of ideas and variety, like on “Inside the Sunburnt Thoughts Of Frost” with acoustic guitars with a light flamenco touch. But don’t think that DARK MILLENNIUM had frilled themselves into the WATCHTOWER nirvana, no, with all complexity and intricacy the album always stays accessible for the regular listener.
Sure, with a CD like this you need quite some time to fully comprehend the true beauty of the 10 hymns, but at least you won’t have to sit down with your headphones and listen with the lights off for 20 times to still not understand a thing. Speed freaks will not find much bliss on "Ashore ...", even though a few select songs are equipped with short anger bursts, like "Black Literature", where the straight speed sprints remind me of UNLEASHED. And who likes it a bit less deadly won’t become a big friend of the album either. You can fell how much the band does not only play their songs, but live and suffer them as well. Especially the far too short instrumental “Disillution” lets all emotions break free. But every other song also takes you on an infinite journey through the realm of sense and perception.
Who owns this album will not need any cheap aids to get intoxicated, the incredibly ingenious music lets your spirit fly free without any damaging side effects. Songs for eternity - DARK MILLENNIUM have achieved with this album what the majority of the Metal scene will try in vain. Should you, dear reader, feel comfortable between old ASPHYX, old CELTIC FROST and also INTO ETERNITY, see to it that you will get this album, no matter how, you will love it!!! But also tolerant Prog Metallers and the quirk division that also likes songs that are slow, super sad and topped off with harsh vocals should also be on a look out.
