As retold rather briefly: The furious, traditional heavy metal entity known as Portrait was originally spawned in the dark mind of guitarist Christian Lindell. The place was Kristianstad, Sweden; the time is more uncertain but let's say somewhere during 2004.
The band could present a full line-up in the beginning of 2006, then as now constituted by Philip Svennefelt (vocals), Christian Lindell (guitar), Richard Lagergren (guitar), David Stranderud (bass) and Anders Persson (drums).
In June the same year, the five-piece recorded its first official demo, known as "Welcome to my Funeral" and continuing to receive praise from new fans all over the globe. Next up was a devilish and much celebrated first live performance at the outlaw pub Dallas, Kristianstad.
2007 took off apocalyptically with the single release "Into the Nothingness" (New Iron Age), immediately met by the same enthusiasm as the demo before it and thus outsold soon as Hell. The band's debut on black gold was followed by a dozen of successful gigs in the Northern Europe; among others the noble Keep It True festival in Bitterfeld, Germany, on which the compilation LP "A New Age of Iron", featuring the new Portrait song "Beware the Demons", was released and sold out in one day.
Before the year had ended, the recordings of Portrait's self-entitled debut album were nearly done.
