so here we have:

Morbid

Morbid was a black/death/thrash metal band founded by Per Yngve (Dead) Ohlin in 1986. Per Yngve did vox for Mayhem before comitting suicide in 1991. Dead was known for his somewhat extreme live performances wich included selfmutilation.
"Dead lived a short but interesting life. He started the band Morbid in Sweden in high school, with his friends before in 1988 leaving Sweden altogether and everyone and everything behind for the band Mayhem as their vocalist."

Grotesque
started out in 1988 and later turned into the hugely popular deathband At the gates
"On 26 jan 2007 they played some songs in the release party of the Swedish Death Metal book and decided to reunite the band. PRE-AT THE GATES. Grotesque was spawned out of the abyss in September 1988 rising from the ashes of death/thrash/metal band Conquest, a band first formed in early -86 by guitarist & songwriter Necrolord. Howsoever, this band didn't become totally twisted, insane and serious until unholy screamer Goatspell joined in March -88. When Grotesque hit the local scene in the fall of -88 there were absolutely no other death metal bands around in the Gothenburg area and there were literally just a few people into underground death metal. Grotesque soon got a maniacal reputation of being devoted satanists, grave desecrators, blasphemers and a very brutal live band. The original line-up featured Goatspell - vomits, Necrolord - high priest of distortion and Nuctemeron - 4-string damnation as well as two other members who soon left due to wimpdom. Rehearsing in the basement of Necrolord's house they soon got together their first violent pieces of death and mayhem. "Moondance Prophecy" was a slow song reminiscent of Celtic Frost/Hellhammer. "Shadows Of Lost Life" - a faster song somewhat in the style of Obscurity/Bathory and Poison (W.G.). At this time they also delivered their true brutal classic "Ripped From The Cross". In the early months of -89 the drummerOffensor joined the order of blasphemy and desecration thus completing the Grotesque line-up. They rehearsed heavily and decomposed more complex and evil death/black metal material like "Ascension Of The Dead", "Blood Runs From The Altar" and "Fall Into Decay". On the 4th of May they recorded the blasphemous rehearsal/demo "The Black Gate Is Closed" an avalanche of death and hate preparing the wimps for Grotesque's first studio recording. The coming monts were spent writing new songs like the epic "Angels Blood" and "Submit To Death" as well as playing a few crazy and brutal live shows. The legendary November recording of "In The Embrace Of Evil" featured five songs - this was originally ment to be the first five songs of a full lenght album on Dolores Records, another three tracks to be recorded later on. Therefore, the recording was never released as a demo. ' On December 12 -89 Grotesque played a truly insane local show in front of 200 people. The crowd was in a frenzy as Grotesque launched their brutal death metal at unsuspecting victims... As well as a few of their own songs they got to play "The Return" by Bathory before the show was shut down by local authorities clamining Grotesque were a bunch of drug addicted satanic maniacs trying to start a riot. In late -89 Nuctemeron left the band. This set-back did not hinder the unholy making of new, faster and more technical evil songs - "Nocturnal Blasphemies", "Spawn Of Azathoth", "Church Of The Pentagram", "Ritual Mutilation" and the legendary "Incantation". These new songs fully stated that Grotesque never compromised one way or the other... They had only gotten blacker, more evil and intense. Renowned tattoo artist and guitarist "The Haunting" had joined the band in the beginning of the year, bringing in a new dimension of brutality into Grotesque. In August 1990 Grotesque did the "Incantation" recording (3 songs for the Dolores Records mini album). Later that month Grotesque played their last show and due to contradictions they split up shortly afterwards. On the Goood Friday of 1996 Necrolord, Goatspell and Offensor entered Berno studio to record 2 songs especially for the "In The Embrace Of Evil" cd, "Church Of The Pentagram" and "Ripped From The cross", the very first songs they wrote."

Nihilist
formed in 1987 as Brainwarp but then morphed into nihilist, this is pre-entombed stuff.

"For a band whose technical lifespan was just over two years, fewer bands have left more of an indelible impression upon the extreme music scene then Nihilist. Formed in 1987 the group bore the name Brainwarp before morphing into Nihilist It was the brainchild of drummer Nicke Andersson, who was joined by two of his friends from summer camp, Alex Hellid on guitars and Leif Cuzner on bass and vocals (Daniel "Dudde" Strachal, who was a part of Brainwarp would later go on to play drums for Lobotomy (Swe)).

Having first been influenced by the '80s Hardcore and Crossover bands, Nihilist were soon introduced to the likes of Death and Kreator and the bastard cross-pollination of influences would soon breed its own virulent new hybrid strain. For their earliest rehearsals and shows, they mixed a repertoire of cover songs and originals. Nihilist found two fortuitous additions when they went into the studio in March of 1988 to record their first demo tape. Mutual friend Mattias "Buffla" Boström had rehearsed a few times as a singer with the other three. As they were eager to find a standalone vocalist, but for the recording session the band drafted in session vocalist Lars-Göran Petrov, who was then the drummer for cult Death Metal band Morbid (Swe). Also joining as a session musician was L.G.'s band mate in Morbid (Swe) Ulf "Uffe" Cederlund on second guitar. It was these five members that the three-song Premature Autopsy was recorded.

The tape received and immediate positivie reaction. Hardly surprising given the immediate jolt of songs like "Supposed To Rot", which kicks off with a riff that a group averaging 15 years of age have no business coming up with. Traces of their soon-to-be infamous buzzsaw sound can allready be heard within the chorus of "Sentenced To Death" which they would soon develop into their own identity. The Band resumed playing shows with their same formative line-up, minus the session musicians, and during one such show L.G. impulsively joined them on stage, and the chemistry simply clicked. Thus Nihilist wasted no time naming him a full-time member. They also found a new bassist, Johnny Hedlund, with "Leffe" Cuzner moving back to the second guitar slot where he originally began. The quintet was now complete and the band were in prime form.

After additional shows and songwriting sessions, in December of 1988 the band went into Sunlight Studios in Stockholm, Sweden to work with a then-unknown producer named Tomas Skogsberg in order to record their second demo "Only Shreds Remain". This three-song tape showed the band's consistent musical development, and gave them the sort of guitar sound and bottom end they had been striving for, and it would mark the beginning of a long-time working relationship between the core members and the producer Skogsberg. The band continued to incorporate new influences into their sound (R.A.V.A.G.E. a.k.a. Atheist and Vomit (Nor)’s "Rot In Hell" demo were particular new faves) such as mid-paced elements or the breakdown in "Face Of Evil". Meanwhile, The Band experimented with tempos, easing back on their pure bursts of speed to create some moments of glorious mid-paced brutality.

The demo was hailed within the underground as a masterpiece, and word quickly spread internationally that Sweden had delivered a world-class contender on its hand. Up until that point, the majority of Swedish bands in the Metal scene were either Melodic Heavy Metal or followers of the then-vibrant Thrash scene. Although a number of Death Metal bands had existed for the past few years in the underground, few where able to survive past the earliest demo stage, defining them more as hobby bands then as serious commitments, Although several countries had put themselves on the Death Metal map by this time (particularly in the UK, USA and Holland), Sweden was not considered a fertile spot for such music - although that would change. First, however, the band needed to survive even further personnel changes.

Directly after the "Only Shreds Remain" recording, the band suffered a serious setback when the band lost one of their guitarists Leif to circumstances beyond their control. His family moved to Canada and he was forced to accompany them, being briefly involved with the band Rapture (later known as Lobotomy (Swe)). Fortunately their old session friend Uffe Cederlund from the first demo tape was now free, as his old band Morbid (Swe) had split up (with singer Per “Geten/Dead” Ohlin soon to be headed to Norway to join Mayhem (Nor) as their singer before taking his own life shortly afterwards). Uffe was trying to get his own band Infuration started, but when the offer cam in from Nihilist he quickly discarded his own plans and joined the group as their second guitarist.

By now the band was attracting even more attention and with the revamped line-up they started playing more shows then ever throughout Sweden. At this point the band were approached by Jon “Metalion” Kristiansen of the renowned Slayer Magazine to take part in a compilation EP with three other burgeoning British bands (Carcass, Bolt Thrower and Paradise Lost) that was to be the first-ever release on his Head Not Found label, and the band quickly recorded the new track “Morbid Devourment” for this purpose. The Release never came together and Metalion subsequently tried to include the track on a compilation EP titled “Brutal Jaevla Död” (Brutal Fucking Death) but this also failed to materialize - thus the track was shelved for the time being, but their reputation continued to grow. This was the last recording with Leif.

Its also worth pointing out of difficult it was in those days to raise awareness for a band outside your immediate city limits, Technological advances in the past decade, such as e-mail, internet and downloading, have changed the face of how people discover, discuss and purchase music. In the late '80s, it required a dedicated ring of tape-traders, which required a lot of nowadays-unthinkable things such as writing letters by hand and sending them in the mail (and waiting month or more for a reply if your contact was overseas). In these days you were sending cash in letters in hopes of obtaining a demo tape (which in many cases you had only read about in fanzines but never actually heard before), you were constantly requested to send back someone's well-worn and glue covered stamps, and the worst insult you could bestow upon someone was sending their copies of demos on brightly-coloured cheap cassettes after they'd sent yours on expensive, high-bias tapes. It was an extremely slow, time-consuming process, that left no small amount of room for people to take advantage of others, but it was not only crudely effective, it was fun. And Discovering a band like Nihilist for the first time was one of the things that kept the scene alive in such days when you often had to drive for hours just to get to that “good” record store that carried records from labels like Combat and Earache.

The band went about recording their third demo tape, Drowned, in August of 1989 with this line-up, not knowing it would be their final recording session together the track “Severe Burns” showed a solid progression without loosing their roots and beginning to incorporate a welcomed doomy edge amidst the carnage. This song would later be reworked (including all new lyrics) for the second Entombed album Clandestine. In addition to the songs on the demo cassette, two other songs were recorded in a more raw form, both of which would later surface on the Radation Sickness bootleg 7”, which also featured the band's tribute to the Michigan-based Death/Grind legends Repulsion by covering “Radiation Sickness”. Nihilist only managed to put out only one semi-official vinyl release (the rest of their output was only on cassette), which was their own bootlegged version of the Drowned 7” single on Bloody Rude Defect Records, released by the band's good friend Fredrik Holmgren. Their lack of proper vinyl and CD releases is something that the bootleggers have willingly exploited up to this point.

Just after completing the demo, the band had increasing differences with bassist Johnny Hedlund. Rather than simply forcing him out, the band took a non-confrontational approach and simply broke up Nihilist, reforming a few days later (without Johnny) as Entombed."

"One of the longest-running Swedish death metal bands, GRAVE has created
a sound and style which has been an inspiration on a number of the genre's
more promising younger outfits. Started as the band Corpse in 1986, they released loads of demos; before the group's legendary 1991 debut."

Dismember
founded in 1988 in stockholm sweden

"Founded 1988 in Stockholm/Sweden, Dismember were among those responsible for Death Metal’s big break through. The debut album, “Like An Ever Flowing Stream” from 1991, clearly showed that Dismember are an uncompromising band which resulted in their rise to cult status within a short period of time after the album took the scene by storm. Extensive touring with bands like Death and Cannibal Corpse showed that Dismember are a live force to be reckoned with and the number of fans grew steadily. Spurred on by success, it was easy to commence the songwriting for the next album. However, the band then released the 5-track EP, "Pieces", and went out on tour again instead with Napalm Death and Obituary. They played for thousands of fans throughout Europe thus reinforcing their status as one of the best live bands on earth."

Treblinka
black metal outfit formed in 1987 in täby sweden, went on to become Tiamat.

"Treblinka was formed in 1988 by guitarist Lucifer Hellslaughter, when he got bored of being "just a vocalist" for thrash band River's Edge. Hellslaughter brought in Najse Auschwitzer, the bassist from River's Edge, to play the drums, as well as Juck The Ripper on bass.

Treblinka had a vocalist, who's name is forever forgotten, who only lasted for two weeks, before Hellslaughter decided to take the vocal duties as well as playing guitar. At the same time guitarist Emetic was recruited.

The first demo, "Crawling in vomits", was recorded in Studio Sunlight, Stockholm, in November 1988, a short time before the same studio stood ground for a whole new death metal sound.

The second demo, "The Sign of the Pentagram", was recorded in March 1989 at Studio Z (same studio where Nihilist recorded their first demo). The demo was produced by Nicke Andesson from Nihilist. "

Carnage
formed in 1989 carnage first played grindcore but evolved into death metal.

"One of the earlier Swedish Death Metal bands. Influenced by old school Death Metal/Grindcore acts, like Autopsy, Death, Repulsion, Carcass etc.. The act was formed by vocalist/guitarist Johan Liiva Axelsson, guitarist Michael Amott, bassist Johnny Dordevic and drummer Jeppe Larsson. The first demo released was called "The Day Man Lost" . Then, Larsson was substituted with Fred Estby. In 1989, the band release the live single “Torn Apart”. However, Axelsson resigned in order to form another project. Likewise, Dordevic quit Carnage, who continued with vocalist Matti Kärki and guitarist David Blomquist. The band subsequently recorded the demo Infestation of Evil, which was met with critical acclaim from the press. In 1990, Carnage released one classic called Dark Recollections, with three of the five were in Dismember within a year of the album's release. "Dark Recollections" represents the pure Swedish Death Metal with heavy powerful underground sound, played with violence, morbidity in best Scandinavian Death Metal old tradition. Carnage is perhaps principally renown for its prominent members that moved on to the elite of the Swedish Metal scene following the split, but the band produced one of the earliest Death Metal efforts in Scandinavia. HAIL TO CARNAGE(R.I.P), FOREVER......................."

Entombed
formed in 1989 entombed evolved from Nihilist.

"ntombed's forerunner, Nihilist, was formed in 1987. In the Nihilist years, 1987-1989, Nicke (drums) and Alex (guitar) were the only constant members. On the first demo, Premature Autopsy (198, L.G was a session singer. After that demo Matthias Boström was the constant singer. Well, not excactly constant, since he left the band in a VERY short time. After that L.G was the constant singer. Then they released their second demo, Only Shreds Remain. About one year later, 1989, they released their third demo, Drowned. Leffe was a constant member until 1989, he played guitar on the first demo and the bass on the second. Then he left to the Canada to study, and he still lives there. Johnny Hedlund (Unleashed) replaced him on the third demo. Uffe played session guitar on the first demo and guitar on the last one.

In 1989 Nihilist split up but was shortly after reformed as Entombed, without Johnny and AlX. Johnny was replaced by David Blomqvist (Dismember) and Nicke played guitar instead of AlX. This was the setting for Entombed's only demo, But Life Goes On. It says on the demo that AlX plays on it, but that is wrong! The reason is that AlX became a member before the demo was out but not before it was recorded. In about the same time as Nihilist split up, they where about to get a deal with Necrosis. But when they became Entombed Necrosis was taken over by Earache. Earache wanted to sign Nihilist, but since Nihilist had split up, Nicke and Uffe sent the But Life Goes On-demo to Earache and got a contract. In 1990 Entombed made their full length debut, with the fast, brutal death metal album Left Hand Path. As David Blomqvist left the band before the record was recorded, the bass duties was shared between Nicke and Uffe. A while after the record was recorded, Entombed got a new bass player, Lars Rosenberg. He is on the picture on the Left Hand Path picture-LP and in the video to the title track, although he doesn't play on the record."

Nirvana 2002
formed in edsbyn sweden in 1988, Orvar later went to play with entombed before making it as a filmcritic on public TV in sweden.

"In the fall of 1988 two guys named Orvar and Erik decided to form a Death Metal band: they really never wanted a typical Death Metal name, so the project was called Prophet 2002.

1989: Even thought no studio recording was available yet their rehearsal tapes gained easily a lot of interest. After a few time they changed the name to because Orvar was interested in metaphysical philosophy, parapsychology and stuff like that at the time, and they released a porta-demo called "Truth & Beauty". A little bit later an American band with the same name released an official 7"EP, so they added the previous suffix 2002: If they had known how famous that band would become then, surely they would have taken another name! The 2 songs have been spreaded again as "Excursion in 2002 (No Dimension)" or also "Excursions in the 2002 Dimension" with a songtitle changed and the addition of the "Krishna Extrema" outro.

1990: The line-up was completed with Lars on bass and they entered in the famous Sunlight Studios to record "Mourning": the recording was made using the same Entombed's “Left Hand Path” equipment and assisted by Nicke and Uffe. After a while the guys signed to CBR Records that released their first professional demo tape, "Disembodied Spirits": one song, "The Awakening Of…" was previously released in a 4-way Split 7"EP for Opinionate! Records. The demo was suddenly a cult in the underground!"
