h33t - Valhalla [rockbox]

Valhalla is a female Death metal band from Brazil. they started out in 1989 and have gone through several line-up changes to this date.

their debut full length record "in the darkness of limb" (1994, Sub Way Rock) has a raw production sound reminiscent of early days death metal. the overall sound of the band is very close to a mix of Krisiun and early Sepultura (might be mistaken but thats what i hear). for being female vocals they are very brutal and dark, almost guttural grunts. instrumentally its a mid-paced groove with great guitar parts wich at times sound kind of black metal inspired.

the second full length effort they released "Petrean self" (2002, Hellion) starts off with a short 20 second intro and then goes off into the track "unleash the power". sadly on this album the vocalist goes for a more Angela Gossow oriented sound wich isnt all that brutal. also the production on the vox are horrible and sound like they were recorded in a closet. the guitars have slowed down a bit but still keep on churning good enough. this album has alot more of that raw sound in it wich makes it even more black metal sounding.

with better production both albums would have been better i think, but then im not at all into the whole raw sounding stuff either.
