Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) is the fourth album by the Iowa-based
Slipknot.
Vol. 3 retained much of the sound and subject matter that made the band
famous, but is considerably more melodic and pensive than their earlier work.
Notably, this is the only Slipknot album to not warrant a Parental Advisory
label.
The band has said that Radiohead and Slayer were the main influences on
the album. The album features many guitar solos, which were missing from
earlier releases due to the influence of producer Ross Robinson.
A special edition of the album, featuring a bonus disc with additional tracks,
was released in 2005.
The album was recorded at producer Rick Rubin's haunted mansion
The song "Before I Forget" evolved from an old song from Slipknot's 1997
Demo tape titled "Carve".
