Adventure Comics 80 Page Giant 001 (10-1998 )
Adventure Comics 061-Millennium Edition Reprint -  Starman's first appearance

34 issues have alternate scans provided
77 partial reprints included because some of the early issues are not as easy to read as they could be and the reprints are nice and shiny. Of course many of these are reprints of later stories from issues with great scans, but I'm not going to pick and choose. It's my way.

Now we must go back 73 years......
It was the fall of 1935 and the Great Depression was over the land. In Germany, Italy and Japan, imperial designs were stirring. Pulp fiction wasn't a movie - it was thrilling stories - magazines with lurid covers. Science fiction was rapidly assuming it's shape and approaching it's golden age.

Before Action. Before Detective. Before Super Heroes
there was Adventure.

It was called "New Comics" at the start, because comic books of the time were often reprints of the newspaper strips, but these were first run. Starting with issue 12 (01-1937) it was "New Adventure Comics". Those early issues were a mix of humor and adventure stories. Super heroes did not yet exist, cowboys, detectives and adventurers held sway. But in Gotham city and Smallville Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent were growing up.

June 1938 New Adventure Comics #27 carries such features as "Detective Sgt. Carey of the Chinatown Squad" and "Federal Men", but it also carried an ad for Action #1 with a guy named Superman on the cover. A year later "Adventure Comics" (renamed at #32) had it's own super hero cover — The Sandman — who would be around till 102. Other super-heroes such as Starman, Hour Man, Manhunter and Shining Knight soon joined him

But then that guy from Action took over, but still sharing with Aquaman, Green Arrow, Johnny Quick and more. Adventure became home eventually to the Legion of Superheroes, but that was not the last change

Supergirl moves out of the back of Action in June 1969, just before the first Moon landing

Supergirl was gone after #424 in (10-1972). Supergirl v1 #1 was dated 11-1972. Later issues of "Adventure" featured a lot of reprints, but had such notable features as Dial H for Hero and the Spectre

Now I love covers, especially from the Silver Age. They are so often funny but were not intended to be. This one is great. Imagine the terror the townsfolk felt when they saw this gang coming. Definitely a job for Superboy

Superboy was often dead or being killed in his legion adventures. Which if you've read the "Pocket Universe" storyline you'll see eventually caught up with him. In my reality of course, that never happened and Superboy grew up to be Superman. May you find your way as pleasant.

Now Supergirl, just could NOT make up her mind about a uniform or she just like variety. My daughters certainly changed clothes a lot. We were lucky if my sons wore clean underwear. Not that everyone fits the sterotype, but looks like Kara did.

Worst Supergirl costume ever

With variations

I think this was her cutest one, but the little girl look may not be quite what you want to intimidate the foe.

This one might distract the fie. It's the skimpiest, but doesn't seem quite practical

Worst Supergirl costume ever runner-up

Shouldn't that be a train flying at Supergirl?

This is my favorite costume I think, hard to tell from the viewing angle.
Maybe I'm a misogynist and just like seeing women dragged by their hair. Whatever. It appeals to me.

A nice cover browser site here where you can see hundreds more Adventure Covers here

Thanks to Scanners, Original Uploaders and Seeders - We need you all!
But thanks most of all to the seeders-the thankless anonymous
chore that make the work of the scanners and unloaders multiply!
Better than a thousand thank-you comments is the seeder to me!
Remember everyone can (and should) seed!

Enjoy and  Seed - Be seeing you!
